Definition
Ringworm is an infection caused by fungi that invade dead skin cell tissues. Ringworm usually occurs around the inner thighs, genitals, feet, and toes. Additionally, it may occur on other body parts, including the torso, hair, and nails.
Signs and symptoms
Ringworm usually appears as ring-shaped, red, patches. It can be scaly or blistered but it is typically uniform in shape with a circular patch of normal skin inside the ring.
Cause
Ringworm is usually caused by poor hygiene but it can also be attributed to wearing tight fitting moist clothing. To treat and prevent ringworm, bathe or shower at least once a day, and change clothes and under garments every day. If you are using showers in public areas, such as the gym, wear shower sandals to avoid fungal contact with your feet.
