ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) is a neurobehavioral disorder estimated to affect 3-5 % of all children. The disorder is characterized by hyperactivity and the inability to focus or concentrate to the point of being disruptive. Typically, those afflicted with ADHD have poor grades in school that do not reflect their true intelligence. Research proves that ADHD is more commonly diagnosed in boys than it is in girls, however, boys may have more outward signs than girls do.
In recent years, there has been an alarming increase in the number of diagnosed cases of ADHD. ADHD is strongly linked to diet, particularly to refined sugar, carbohydrates, corn syrup, and the chemicals and additives in processed foods. Food allergies, caffeine and metal toxins in food are known to stimulate ADHD and should be avoided. Essential fatty acid deficiencies have also been discovered in several ADHD cases.
Conventional therapy involves giving pharmaceutical medication to children suffering from ADHD. There has been a large debate brewing in the medical community for quite some time, concerning the, “drugging,” of children who suffer from mild mental disorders such as ADHD or depression. Many parents and physicians believe these medications can trigger psychoses such as manic or schizophrenic-like disorders. Several pharmaceutical companies producing these drugs have been the subject of class action lawsuits in recent years as more parents are realizing the affects these medications have.
ADHD can be treated naturally without the use of harsh drugs.
